So Darshan Chakra Kriya is like 100 workmen working day and night to clear your Karma

After contacting Ana Brett & Ravi Singh I got this mail from Ravi Singh_

Thanks for writing and congratulations on your 1000 days of So Darshan. I (Ravi) did it for 62 min. (often twice per day) for 18 years. It took everything in my life to another level. So Darshan Chakra Kriya is an updated version of an ancient Brahmin purification technique. That is well documented. The ones who did the updating were the lineage of Sikh Gurus who elevated everything yoga to a very high Spiritual plateau. So Darshan Chakra Kriya is described verbatim (by the poet Jai Dev) in the Siri Guru Granth, the Holy book of the Sikhs. Please check our post on So Darshan Chakra Kriya.

Basically what Kundalini Yoga is is the “greatest hits,” of the Saints and Sages of the Ages. Yogi Bhajan didn’t “fabricate” Kundalini Yoga. If what came before (in yoga) was like Lester Young then Yogi Bhajan was Charlie Parker. Charlie Parker’s innovations in music were built upon what came before. There are elements of the K. Yoga we know and love in the Bihar school of yoga and in the esoteric branch of Sikhism, but Yogi Bhajan tied it all together into a cohesive system. By the Grace of the Infinite may may Kundalini Yoga continue to flourish and help people to heal their lives and heal the world.

We go into all of this in detail in the book we’ve written and which is now in the production phase. We’ll keep you posted via our e-newsletter

We wish you joy, health, and abundant blessings!

All Best,
Ana Brett & Ravi SIngh

And I would like to add following story:

A young disciple asked Buddha: How long will it take me to burn through all of my karma. Buddha said, Can you imagine a block of marble 1 mile square? Now imagine that once a year a dove flies over the top of the marble trailing a silk scarf. How long do you think it would take to wear that block of marble down to nothing? Thats what each of us is up against with regard to the load of karmic debt we carry.

So Darshan Chakra Kriya is like 100 workmen with electric sanders working day and night on that
metaphorical marble. So Darshan Chakra Kriya is the most important and powerful meditation in Kundalini Yoga. This meditation will very quickly and effectively help you clarify and resolve the core issues in your life and very directly begin to transform your life in ways in ways you may not even be able to imagine!

  1. Thank you so much for your information and explanation, Ravi !
I like your musical analogy, because I did play Saxophon in Berlin, London and NYC for many years :-)

Amazing that you did SCK for so long! That brings me up to a few practical questions:
Since you dedicated decates to SCK, did it never tempt you to do 2.5 hours in one go, to see how that would work out ?
I always wonder when people tell me that it is the highest Kriya but somehow they did stop it – what made you stop it?

… and also some theoretical questions:
Why do you spell it “So Darshan” and not Sodarshan? Does it have to do with Darshan?
Whilst you mailed I did find out about the SGGS-reference of SCK and posted them here:
Since you say that it is well documented, could you point me to sources on the ancient Brahmin Purification?

  2. After 2 weeks Ravi did mail:

I have heard rerference to So Darshan as an “ancient Brahmin purification technique” from Yogi Bhajan and some Indian swamis but I can’t point to a reference in any literature to substantiate that. It makes perfect sense though. Things are updated constantly. For instance Tibetan Buddhism absorbed the Bon religion and its predecessor the “Mon” tradition. Christianity absorbed the “pagan” traditions etc. It’s our feeling that Yogi Bhajan may not have been a perfect person, but he was in many respects a perfect Teacher. His depth of understanding and Mastery with regard to Spiritual technologies was really unprecedented. His teachings didn’t occur in a vacuum but were and extension of the inner school of Sikhism as well the many yoga traditions he was exposed to in India. So even if Yogi Bhajan did “make up” some things those things still were an extension of what came before and part of a continuing evolution of Spiritual technology. It is our feeling that Kundalini Yoga will continue to evolve and that to relate to Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan as a form of dogma and something indelibly fixed won’t work. K. Yoga is a Tantric system and that means it’s dynamic. We need to strike the Tantric balance of having reverence for what came before but also not to be afraid to question, experiment, and innovate.

I also want to point out that I added another finding yout a 13th century christian version of Pranayama Yoga which is very simliar to Sodarshan Chakra Kriya here:

And after me asking why he stopped SCK -after all it promises enlightenemt – he responded:

I stopped So Darshan because I wanted to start exploring other amazing K. Yoga meditations: Ganpati Kriya, Gian Siddhi Kriya (hands over ears, fingers pointing straight back, Gobinday, Mukunday…4x per breath), etc.
