From the little I know about Ramana Maharshi,
I think this was the experience he had as a boy, which did kickstart him into his spiritual quest in the mountain (despite the wish of his mother, who after trying to convince him to come back multiple times later did join him herself to learn from him).
So this could be seen as one point on the path of and shows that enlightenment is not an ultimate experience but does come in many facets in life and can be tuned up multiple times.
I also am convinced that he only could express his experience many years later,
because kids often do have very enlightening experiences but are not yet in the position to convey them via the intellect.
